I'm just trying to change the world, one sequin at a time

Carven

It probably sounds crazy for a fashion connoisseur but I first heard of Carven clothing just a few weeks ago(shame on me), when I came across an amazing pair of goat suede Carven shoes with a giant bow on the back. The heel was low, so that ruled them immediately out of my wish list, but the design truly caught my eye. And then came the dresses. In the whole Carven collection there is not a single piece that I wouldn't wear. As democratic as the brand appears to be, not everyone can wear designs like that, which is a good thing for the truly gifted. They demand the right attitude, the right legs and the right allure. I love the sleeves, the cuts, the hemlines, the puffiness, the unexpected cuts, everything. Guillaume Henry is seriously a genius.

Cutting Edge

Max Mara, Salvatore Ferragamo, Versace

I know everyone's talking about bold colours, colour blocking, colour clashing, hot pink, orange, blue and green this season but my eyes are on another trend: skin exposure and in particular bare midriffs. While revealing your entire belly is the tackiest thing you can do, showing just a bit of upper stomach can be sexy, mysterious, chic and playful all at the same time. There are many ways to try this. You can wear it with body-hugging skirts that hit just above the knee and a top that allows no exposure of cleavage. Pants are trickier, but wide-legged ones, paired with a midriff revealing top and a blazer can scream timeless elegance. There is of course the short puffy skirt which is risky, and reveals a lot of skin but still, some people can pull it off- only between 11 pm and 6 am and only if you have legs that go on for miles. My personal favourite way to play midriff peek-a-boo is with under the knee, A-line skirts and cropped tops in bold colours or sequins. Just remember, NEVER show your belly button, or you can go from stylish to banal in no time.

God, I missed blogging. I missed having the inspiration to blog about things actually. You can't blame me. Being in Greece for the past ten months (since my last post) has really taken its toll on the arty side of me. As a matter of fact it has been quite a readjustment, one that probably will not last long as I am already searching for reasons to leave again. So what have I been doing all this time? For starters, I have worked hard on my final projects for CSM, and now I'm the proud owner of an MA in Fashion Journalism. I have also experimented with some things, like, say, not go out that often and appreciate life laying low, which was fun while it lasted. I started watching Gossip Girl, adopted a few more cats and spent hours and hours thinking how to make a career in fashion in a country where girls go out at night wearing jeans and ballerinas (ew) and guys think that a labelled shirt is all they need to be considered attractive (ew again).
Anyway, I don't know if I'll stay here for long, I have a long list of things I want to do career-wise and very few of them involve sticking around, as much as I love it (lack of fashion sense aside). Until I decide what to do, I'll blog about a life (mine) that evolves around fashion, fun and the belief that anything non glamorous, non classy, non elegant, non precious, casual or handmade is boring. Or at least not for this blog.
